hope of the Known by collectors for creating paintings of incredible beauty that resonate with the viewer, artist Deborah Haeffele’s work employs a painterly realism like that of the European and California impressionists. She uses vivid colors and a dramatic play of light and shadow resulting in an unerring ability to define a moment. Her paintings have been featured in Art Business News, Artist Magazine, American Library Journal, Smithsonian, the Monterey Herald (CA), Tampa Bay Magazine, Vine Times (CA), Living Out East (FL) and on San Jose, CA NBC 11’s cable program In Wine Country. She is also a member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA). A published writer and artist, Haeffele’s work is included in a diverse assortment of corporate and private collections including Cranbrook Institute, SAS Institute, Glaxo Wellcome, Kaiser Permanente, G.E., Clos La Chance Winery, and Zayante Winery. Her commissions included a 1493 square foot series of murals for the Eva H. Perry Library featured in the American Library Journal. She has exhibited at the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Charach Epstein Museum, Michigan, and the Society of Illustrators, New York. She has been published by over a dozen major publishers including, EP Dutton, Penguin, Scholastic, Simon & Schuster, Algonquin, Scribner & Sons, Farrar, Staus, & Giroux, Bentley House, and more. Art Business News said her landscapes “emphasize color and light…which help create an interesting marriage of line and fluidity.” Art reviewer Lisa Crawford Watson says that her work “is painted not only in appreciation of the landscape but also with a story in mind, offering a sense of the lives played out in her landscapes…invoking a joyful resonance and memory.” Tampa Bay Magazine editor/publisher Aaron Fodiman said, “attention to detail and composition distinguish her work as exceptional…reflecting what is good in the world.” Her latest focus is on great western landscapes, “America’s
natural architecture.” The pieces shown here are the first
of a series, In God’s Wilderness, that capture the pivotal
national treasures which enchant people worldwide including Yellowstone,
Glacier National Park, Zion, Sedona, Bryce Canyon, and the Rocky
Mountain National Park.
