JANE RANKIN

ARTIST BIO

I am a native “Sooner”, born in Oklahoma where my family still resides and where I met my husband. His military career enabled us to live in and visit many places in the United States and overseas. Moving every couple of years across country or abroad, with children born along the way, has given us an exciting and challenging life. We particularly enjoyed Turkey and Greece. The opportunity to view beautiful classical sculpture in those two countries planted the seed of my own interest in this art form. Although I had always appreciated three-dimensional art, this experience solidified what has become my raison d’etre.

Since returning to the United States, I have practiced my art, studying with several excellent sculptors at the Fechin Institute in Taos, New Mexico, the Scottsdale Artist School in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the Loveland Academy of Fine Art in Loveland, Colorado. I know that I want to create sculpture with which people can identify, to provide a catalyst for reflections and pleasant memories. At this time of my life
children are my preferred subjects. I have been a schoolteacher, have worked with children in volunteer activities and have children of my own, so it’s natural that I feel a connection with them. These years of observation have enabled my work to capture some of the naturalness and spontaneity of childhood.

I am a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. I spent my childhood in Lawton. We-my husband and three children-return there regularly to visit our extended family.
