Richard L. RussellClick on the thumbnails below to view a larger image ArTIST BIORichard Lance Russell studied Illustration at Brigham Young University and interned in New York with Burt Silverman. He has been primarily involved in freelancing for magazines and books for the past six years and has also worked for a local video game company creating concept artwork, textures, and backgrounds. Russell taught Advanced Figure drawing at Brigham Young University as well. His work for the corporate world of entertainment was not fulfilling him as an artist. Consequently, for the past two years he has concentrated exclusively on his oil painting. Russell’s painterly canvases indicate his artistic versatility. Painting landscapes alive with movement and color, to striking portraiture, Russell’s work shows a combination of talent and training. His figurative work is characterized by skillful composition. He paints the dynamics of the magic of light enlivening each human form. He is challenged artistically using life as his model, and this infuses his work with the vitality that comes from rapidly changing light and shifting subjects. On two occasions Richard Lance Russell’s work has been included in the Society of Illustrators shows. His work has also been featured in the Utah Springville Museum Spring Salons.
